Response to Prime Ministers Statement - 05.01.2021

Coronavirus: Urgent message following tonight’s statement from the Prime Minister

Dear Parents and Carers,

Sadly, I find myself once again taking the unusual action of closing Osborne school, like other Birmingham heads, following tonight’s announcement by the Prime Minister.

This applies to all pupils other than those who fall into the priority children and/or children of keyworkers category (as applied in March to May 2020.)

Parents/carers of Reception children and those joining school since September 20 will be contacted tomorrow morning by our office staff, to identify if you or your partner are employed as a key worker.

Given the late notice of this announcement, Osborne Primary School will be unable to start this provision until Wednesday 6th January. We will contact those eligible directly, tomorrow, with further details.

All primary pupils should therefore remain at home on Tuesday 5th January.

All staff will be attending school tomorrow, so that remote (home) learning via electronic devices can be provided and, staff rotas organised for direct teaching roles for priority and key worker children. Parents/carers will be contacted tomorrow via Marvellous Me, the website and group call, with further information re remote learning.

The school’s electronic devices currently available for families to borrow, in order to access remote learning for the next six weeks, will be allocated according to our list, as previously informed by the parent/carer survey last term.

No school leader wants to close their school and deprive children of their education. These are incredibly sad times but the health of the nation must be protected.

From March we have enjoyed positive relationships with our families as we have supported each other in the challenges we have faced together. We will continue to support you and work with you and we look forward to opening our doors to all pupils once again.

Stay safe and take care,

Michelle Gay
