Welcome Back

Hope you have all had a relaxing holiday with the chance to meet up with family.

We are pleased that Mrs Kelsall, Learning Mentor, has returned to school this week which I know the children will be extremely pleased with.

To increase and strengthen our Inclusion Hub support, Mrs Bonner (pm) and Miss Greddon (am) will be working as Learning Support Assistants with identified children. This means school will be able to offer support to more children, than last term.

Procedures during the Current Pandemic

For now, school will be operating as at the end of last term.

However, there is a contingency plan on the school website (www.osborneprimaryschool.co.uk) which shows possible changes if the infection rate in school, Erdington or Birmingham becomes high and needs extra precautions.

Please remember all school absences should be reported by 9:30 am each morning, otherwise school has a legal duty to first call and if there is no response to visit the home.

When you phone school to report a positive case please have the following information ready which we have to report to public health (no names are included, just initials):

Date of symptoms (if any) and date of positive LFD and/or PCR test.

The main changes are around the new government guidance regarding isolation and daily LFD tests after close contact with positive Covid-19 cases, as detailed below.

Those reporting a positive covid test should:

  • Self ioslate for 7 days
  • Individuals may now take LFD tests on day 6 and day 7 of their self-isolation period.
  • Those who receive two negative test results are no longer required to complete 10 full days of self-isolation.
  • The first test must be taken no earlier than day 6 of the self-isolation period and tests must be taken 24 hours apart. This also applies to children under 5, with LFD testing at parental or guardian discretion.
  • If both these test results are negative, and you do not have a high temperature, you may end your self-isolation after the second negative test result and return to your education setting from day 8.
  • If a child is a close contact of a positive covid case, it is recommended that they take daily LFD tests before coming to school.
  • Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests will need to complete the full 10 day period of self-isolation.
  • Children under 5 are not being advised to take part in daily testing of close contacts.
  • If a child under 5 is a contact of a confirmed case, they are not required to self-isolate and should not start daily testing.
  • If they live in the same household as someone with COVID-19 they should limit their contact with anyone who is at higher risk of severe illness if infected with COVID-19, and arrange to take a PCR test as soon as possible.
  • They can continue to attend an education setting while waiting for the PCR result.

Behaviour Policy Updated

At Osborne, we are committed to creating a positive learning environment where exemplary behaviour is at the heart of the school. Over last half term, the school senior leadership team have reviewed our behaviour policy and will share this with both children and staff in the next two weeks.

This includes the changes below to our 3 new school rules:

Ready: We are READY to listen, READY to learn. We are READY for new challenges. We show each other how we are READY every day.

Respectful: We are RESPECTFUL to everyone we meet in school. We use kind words and welcome everyone. We listen to other’s opinions and share ours in a safe way. We RESPECT our school and look after school property.

Safe: We are SAFE and keep each other SAFE. We have kind hands, feet and words. We think about where we are and make smart choices with our actions. We recognise when we feel UNSAFE and speak to an adult.

Once these new routines have been shared with all children and staff, the policy will be shared with parents.

After School Clubs

Parents who have been successful in securing a place for their child/children at one of the After School Clubs, will be receiving an electronic message this week and the opportunity to pay by Parent Pay.

There were over 150 responses for 80 places in clubs and we have made sure that every child has at least one place at a club of their choice.

We did experience some difficulties because parents had not named their child in their response.

Currently, 5 spaces are left in the construction club on Tuesdays. Please contact the office if you would like to book a place.
